Long-term care rules and regulations have been changing at a fast and furious pace over the past few years. Often, changes can happen so quickly that it can be nearly impossible to train staff and update processes in time to stay current. While high-risk areas exist throughout SNF facilities, we believe five areas in particular are worth your time to assess and evaluate: QAPI; MDS billing errors; incident reports; quality measures/Five Star rating; and case-mix index (CMI).
Identifying your strengths in each area, and recognizing opportunities for improvement, is absolutely critical to the long-term health of your SNF—and the quality care of your residents.

The following 14-point checklist is designed to gauge the effectiveness of your SNF in these five areas, as well as determine an overall clinical performance level based on your responses.
